The Men of Purpose recently began a new teaching series focused on behavioral health, aimed at helping men grow not only spiritually but also mentally and emotionally. In our first session of the series, Pastor C. Porter, Pastor of Christ Cathedral and Christ Community Fellowship, led the discussion on the important topic of Relapse vs. Recovery.
The conversation centered on the reality that many men face cycles in life where old habits, patterns, or struggles attempt to pull them backward. Relapse represents those moments when someone falls back into behaviors or mindsets that hinder growth and purpose. Recovery, however, represents the intentional decision to confront those struggles, learn from them, and move forward with discipline, accountability, and faith.
For the Men of Purpose, this topic is especially meaningful. The goal is not perfection, but progress. Many men are learning that recovery is a process one that requires honesty, support from other brothers, and a commitment to becoming better men for their families, their community, and their relationship with God. Through open discussion and shared experiences, the session reminded everyone that setbacks do not define a man, but the decision to rise again and continue growing does.
This series is designed to challenge, strengthen, and encourage men to recognize the difference between staying trapped in old patterns and stepping into a lifestyle of recovery, responsibility, and purpose.
